How To Play Wordle

Wordle is a simple game with only a couple of rules. In order to play, word puzzle fans will first need to head to the right place. Wordle can be played on the New York Times Crossword app and the New York Times Games website. These are the only two places to play the original version of Wordle. While there are tons of copycats and clones out there, they will have different answers and can have slightly different rules than the NYT’s version.

Players need to come up with a great starting Wordle word. Good starting words:

Must be five letters long. Must be real English words that aren’t proper nouns. Should not be previous puzzle answers. Should not be plural nouns ending in S or ES. Should have five different common letters in it.

Once a good starting word is chosen, type it into the Wordle site or app. Press enter. This will cause the letters of the chosen word to change colors, giving players clues to the real answer.

Green letters are right and in the right place or places in the word. Yellow letters are right but in the wrong place or places in the word. Gray letters are incorrect.

Given these clues, keep trying new words and getting new clues through the colors of their letters. Players get a total of six tries to get to the answer of the day.
